Since discovering the line-up for 2011 Big Day Out I've been in a state of effervescent sputtering. Every time I picture Tool's lead man Maynard Keenan onstage doing only what he can do somewhere deep inside me a colony of rare butterflies take flight - ahhhh yep! It's been almost 14 years since I last saw them at Wellington's Town Hall (EPIC) - a perfect Circle came close but left without the cigar. With four months to go & nothing short of premature this excitement is already transcending all previously acknowledged boundaries.
The thought of freebooting through crowds & lounging drink in hand with a handful of close (& exceptionally good looking - you know who you are) friends, mussed up tresses & shorter than short shorts is enough to wind a girl something wicked. Breathe Manda, breathe. Okay, so now I have that wee mouth born spasm out of the way here's the rest of what the Big Day Out has on offer.
Iggy & the Stooges
Rammstein
M.I.A
Lupe Fiasco
CSS
I know, the list is short, there are of course many more, but these are my picks & what is surely going to get me from Wellington to Auckland in a fast plane (is there any other way!?!).
And because dreams are still free I thought I would compile my ultimate B.D.O line-up. This of course would consist of Alison Mosshart in two places at once with fervent lashings of the Kills & the Dead Weather followed by & in no particular order the The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, RATM, The Gossip, The Knife, Cypress Hill, The XX and Florence & the Machine. To see them all in one sitting would surely be sensory overload, but at least I could die happy!
TOOL - Eulogy
TOOL - Aenima
TOOL - Stinkfist
